The Centre was established at the University of Vienna as part of the Institute for Software Science (Formerly the Institute for Software Technology and Parallel Systems) in 1995 when it received start-up funding from the European Union, provided within the ESPRIT research and development programme in Information Technologies.
Since that time, we have pursued an agenda of research and development in languages, tools and applications for high performance computing architectures. A major focus of our work is the transfer of maturing technologies in HPCN from research to industry. We are active at the European level within the framework of the EU's HPCN - Technology Transfer Network, where we joined with local industrial organisations to form ATTN, the Austrian Technology Transfer Node. You can obtain information on ATTN and on a range of other projects actively being pursued at VCPC, or download our reports, from our website.
We have participated actively in standardisation activities, and encouraged the take-up of new programming paradigms. Check in particular our HPF pages on the web for more information. Note also that a free non-commercial HPF compiler is available, together with a simple program analysis tool, for those who wish to find out how to program in HPF. Click on Software to Download for more details.
We provide consulting services and make a large-scale computer available to research and development projects. For information on this, see the External Services or write to us.
Finally, we also provide accompanying education and training. Staff members are able to teach in the usage of MPI, HPF, Fortran 90 and in other topics of parallel programming. Please contact us if this is of interest to you.
We are an international team: you will find more about us in the Staff pages. From time to time, there are new openings for staff. If you are interested in working with us, check for Job Offers posted.
We hope that you will enjoy our website. Please contact us if you are interested in our services or would like to use our facilities.
